About forty years ago Per á Hædd, a photographer in Tórshavn, purchased 140 old glass-plates with images of the Faroe Islands from a Danish colleague. The photographs were taken by Danish photographer Anders Peter Hansen (1870-1948), who visited the islands in the summer of 1911 and travelled around Norðstreymoy, Eysturoy and Norðoyar. In recent years the author has been able to identify further photographs taken by A. P. Hansen during his visit.
This new enlarged edition of the book presents 170 of A. P. Hansen’s photographs which provide a unique visual insight into the local communities in the Faroes a hundred years ago.
